Is what I say in therapy confidential?
I take confidentiality seriously as I understand the importance of this for those seeking therapy. There are times, however, that I may have to break confidentiality as I have a duty of care to you and vulnerable others. In these circumstances, I will discuss this with you where possible. Examples of when I may have to break confidentiality include when your life or that of another is in immediate danger. We will discuss confidentiality in greater detail at the initial assessment and you can ask any questions you have about this.
What should I expect?
If you would like an initial discussion about whether I can help, please contact me. The initial telephone consultation is free and an opportunity to briefly discuss your current difficulties to determine whether I am the most appropriate to help you.
The initial session is an assessment. All sessions will be 60 minutes.
The initial assessment is an opportunity for me to find out more about you and what brings you to therapy. You will also be able to ask me any questions you have about therapy.
You might be looking for time-limited therapy or open-ended sessions. At our first meeting we will discuss your goals for therapy and discuss a therapeutic plan. If we agree to a set number of sessions, it can be changed to be open ended at any stage. You are of course under no obligation to proceed with therapy after the initial assessment.
What is your cancellation policy?
I kindly request that you inform me as early as possible, and with at least 48 hours notice, if you need to cancel a session. Sessions missed or cancelled within 48 hours of the appointment time will incur the full fee.
Do you prescribe medication?
Psychologists are not prescribing doctors.
What is your availability?
I am available weekdays and some evenings.
What if it is an emergency and I need to speak to someone urgently?
